Le bassin hydrographique du fleuve Flores est un sous-bassin du fleuve Mearim, l’un des plus grands fleuves du Maranhão. Il est nécessaire de mieux diffuser les connaissances sur l’intérieur du Maranhão, en renforçant la conservation des environnements les plus fragiles et en associant ces connaissances au mouvement populaire en faveur d’une société plus durable. La raison pour laquelle l’homme doit mieux prendre soin de son environnement réside dans la recherche de réalisations positives pour construire un environnement sain et respectueux. Le respect d’autrui et de l’environnement, en réunissant de plus en plus de personnes autour d’un objectif commun, celui d’apporter la santé environnementale et sociale à un peuple très défavorisé. Le peuple du Maranhão, fort et imprégné des coutumes de divers peuples opprimés, noirs et indigènes, a besoin de politiques publiques adaptées à sa réalité particulière et fragile.
