The media industry is undergoing fundamental change. Print media see their existence threatened by declining revenues and are observing an increasing shift in media usage behaviour away from printed newspapers towards online media. These are two indications that the current business model of newspaper publishers and media companies in the German-speaking media market is no longer working. But what viable business models exist in the disruptive media world? This paper systematically identifies the requirements that forward-looking business models of media organisations must meet in order to respond to both changing media production processes and the adapted needs of media users.
