Alle Schwimmblasenfische zeigen schon auf geringe Änderungen des hydro­ statischen Druckes mehr oder weniger lebhafte Reaktionen. Offenbar werden Druckänderungen recipiert, so daß man von einem Drucksinn (Druckreception) solcher Fische sprechen kann. Da die meisten Fische in ihrem natürlichem Lebensraum, je nach der Tiefe in der sie sich gerade aufhalten, sehr verschieden hohen Drucken ausgesetzt sein können, liegt der Gedanke nahe, daß sie auf Grund ihrer Druckempfindlichkeit ein Registriervermögen für die Wasserticfe besitzen. Ein experimenteller Beweis ist dafür noch nicht erbracht worden. Alle bisherigen Experimente zeigen zunächst nur Reaktionen auf Druck ä n d e ru n gen. Ob darüber hinaus auch ein konstanter Druck seiner Größe nach recipiert wird und ob die Druckreception an der Orientierung im Raum beteiligt sein kann, sind noch offene Fragen. Die vorliegende Untersuchung soll ihrer Klärung mit Hilfe von Dressurversuchen näherkommen. Eine Schwimmblase findet sich bei fast allen Fischen: den Ganoiden, den Dipnoern und fast allen Teleostiern. Bei den Pleuronectiden wird sie während der Onto­ genese zurückgebildet. Den Elasmobranchiern fehlt sie ganz, bei einigen Tele­ ostiern ist sie sekundär verlorengegangen (z. B. CottuJf!,obio, Scorpaena porct/s u. a.).
