Grundlegend für die Förderung der nachhaltigen Entwicklung (SD) ist die Integration der SD-Politik in alle Regierungsbereiche. Das Ziel dieser Studie war es, zu vergleichen, wie die Politik für nachhaltige Entwicklung in die formale Grundschulbildung in Norwegen und Schottland integriert wird. Unter Verwendung qualitativer Forschungsmethoden der formativen Politikanalyse vergleicht die Studie drei Schlüsselaspekte der vertikalen Dimension der Integration von Umweltpolitik im Bildungssektor: a) die Politik für nachhaltige Entwicklung, wie sie in den Grundsätzen für nachhaltige Entwicklung des Landes festgelegt ist, b) den offiziellen Lehrplan des Landes für die Grundschulbildung und c) die praktische Anwendung in den Schulen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass, obwohl die Integration der Politik für nachhaltige Entwicklung in die offiziellen Lehrpläne unterschiedlich ist, die tatsächliche Umsetzung in den Schulen sehr ähnlich ist.
