A integração da política de desenvolvimento sustentável em todos os sectores governamentais é fundamental para a promoção do desenvolvimento sustentável (DS). O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar a forma como a política de DS é integrada no ensino primário formal na Noruega e na Escócia. Utilizando métodos de investigação qualitativa de análise formativa de políticas, o estudo compara três aspectos-chave da dimensão vertical da integração da política ambiental no sector da educação: a) a política de DS tal como definida nos princípios de desenvolvimento sustentável dos países, b) o currículo oficial dos países para o ensino primário e c) a aplicação prática nas escolas. Os resultados mostram que, embora a integração da política de DS nos currículos formais seja diferente, a aplicação efectiva nas escolas é muito semelhante.
