Die biologischen Bekämpfungsmittel und Pflanzenextrakte vermeiden alle damit verbundenen negativen Auswirkungen, wie z. B. Umweltverschmutzung, Resttoxizität, die Entwicklung von Resistenzen bei Krankheitserregern, mangelnde Kosteneffizienz usw., die durch den kontinuierlichen Einsatz von Chemikalien zur Krankheitsbekämpfung verursacht werden. Der Einsatz biologischer Mittel zur Bekämpfung von Pflanzenkrankheiten stellt eine Alternative zur chemischen Bekämpfung dar.
