Fettige Etheramine werden häufig bei der Flotation von Eisenerz verwendet und nach ihrer Verwendung in Absetzbecken entsorgt. Etheramine sind kostspielig und ihre Entsorgung in der Umwelt kann erhebliche Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt haben. Daher wurden Studien durchgeführt, um diese in den anfallenden Abfällen enthaltenen Substanzen zu entfernen und zu quantifizieren. Das mögliche Recycling der in den Abwässern und Abfällen der Flotation enthaltenen Etheramine könnte die Umweltbelastung verringern und die Kosten für diesen wichtigen Rohstoff senken.
