No entanto, a pressão de uma população urbana em crescimento que exige alimentos frescos e a agricultura urbana em particular, estão inevitavelmente ligadas ao uso indiscriminado de pesticidas. Estes dois factores prejudicam o ambiente e expõem muitas pessoas a pesticidas tóxicos. Tentativa de uma tecnologia de regulação ecológica: Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin (Ascomycota: Hypocreales) como alternativa para controlar a traça-da-couve Plutella xylostella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae). A redução da libertação de produtos químicos tóxicos e resíduos na produção de vegetais tem sido levada a cabo com o objetivo de melhorar a qualidade das culturas e proteger o ambiente.
