Todos os países que modernizaram a sua agricultura e alcançaram uma maior produção só o fizeram através da introdução da ciência e da tecnologia no sistema agrícola. Durante os últimos 65 anos, ocorreram várias mudanças em Gujarat e na Índia através da implementação de vários programas de desenvolvimento. Apesar disso, ainda não conseguimos modernizar os camponeses rurais e a sua economia até ao nível desejado. Em Gujarat, há certos distritos onde o progresso na modernização do campesinato é muito baixo em geral e nos distritos tribais em particular. O Projeto Integrado de Desenvolvimento Tribal (ITDP) foi implementado em 1976 em todo o estado em bolsas tribais para o bem-estar dos camponeses tribais, embora a maioria dos camponeses nesta área ainda não tenha conseguido atingir o nível esperado de mudança sócio-técnica-económica e modernização agrícola. Para avaliar esta situação, o presente estudo intitula-se 'Análise do impacto da modernização do campesinato na agricultura no âmbito do Projeto Integrado de Desenvolvimento Tribal do distrito de Sabarkantha'.
