Das Werk untersucht die Entstehung der beiden epischen Dichtungen ''Ilias'' und ''Odyssee'' und versucht, ihre Entstehungsgeschichte zu rekonstruieren. Bonitz analysiert dabei die Sprache, die Stilistik und die �����berlieferungsgeschichte der Gedichte, um ihre Entstehung zu datieren und ihre Urspr�����nge zu ergr�����nden. Er kommt zu dem Schluss, dass die Homerischen Gedichte auf m�����ndlicher �����berlieferung beruhen und wahrscheinlich in der Zeit zwischen dem 8. und dem 6. Jahrhundert v. Chr. entstanden sind.
