Il libro adotta un approccio patrimoniale al Centro storico della città di Porto Nacional-TO. Lo studio è stato condotto attraverso interviste orali e questionari applicati a turisti e residenti della città. Le domande erano direttamente collegate all’esistenza del turismo culturale in città e al discorso presente nel processo di valorizzazione del patrimonio. Uno degli obiettivi principali è quello di discutere lo sviluppo del turismo culturale in città per rafforzare l’attività turistica e la percezione dei residenti nell’area del centro storico in merito al processo di valorizzazione del patrimonio, sulla base dei documenti formali che costituiscono il Verbale di Iscrizione del Centro Storico e il Dossier di Iscrizione. Sono molte le ragioni per cui è considerata una delle città più rappresentative dello Stato. Un altro fatto importante è stato il suo riconoscimento nazionale come sito del patrimonio del Tocantins nel 2008. È stata la seconda città a essere inserita nell’elenco nello Stato e la prima nel Tocantins. L’inserimento del Centro storico di Porto Nacional-TO è avvenuto con l’obiettivo di consolidare e stabilire l’identità, i valori, i costumi e il riconoscimento della propria storia tra la popolazione di Porto.
