Le livre adopte une approche patrimoniale du centre historique de la ville de Porto Nacional-TO. L’étude a été réalisée par le biais d’entretiens oraux et de questionnaires adressés aux touristes et aux habitants de la ville. Les questions étaient directement liées à l’existence du tourisme culturel dans la ville et au discours présent dans le processus de patrimonialisation. L’un des principaux objectifs est de discuter du développement du tourisme culturel dans la ville afin de renforcer l’activité touristique et la perception des résidents de la zone d’inscription du centre historique à l’égard du processus patrimonial, sur la base des documents formels qui constituent le procès-verbal d’inscription du centre historique et le dossier d’inscription. Les raisons pour lesquelles elle est considérée comme l’une des villes les plus représentatives de l’État sont nombreuses. Un autre fait important est sa reconnaissance nationale en tant que site du patrimoine tocantin en 2008. C’était la deuxième ville à être inscrite dans l’État et la première dans le Tocantins. L’inscription du centre historique de Porto Nacional-TO avait pour but de consolider et d’établir l’identité, les valeurs, les coutumes et la reconnaissance de sa propre histoire parmi les habitants de Porto.
