Os tumores neuroblásticos periféricos (pNTs) são tumores pediátricos sólidos extremamente heterogéneos, responsáveis por 15 % das mortes por cancro infantil. Em Marrocos, não foram realizados estudos epidemiológicos, moleculares ou biológicos sobre estes tumores, o que nos levou a realizar este trabalho. Procuramos revisar os diversos dados clínicos e histopatológicos dos pNTs, bem como a incidência, sobrevivência e mortalidade desses tumores. O estudo molecular nos permitiu estabelecer o método de hibridização in situ por fluorescência (FISH), adotado unanimemente em todo o mundo para determinar o status de amplificação do MYCN, um importante fator prognóstico na escolha da estratégia terapêutica adequada. A amplificação do MYCN foi encontrada em 27,8% dos casos de pNTs. Por sua vez, o estudo da expressão do CD44 por imuno-histoquímica (IHC) revelou que esta molécula de adesão celular é um forte indicador de metástase, sendo a sua positividade um sinal de ausência de invasão tumoral. Os resultados globais obtidos através destes estudos analíticos e epidemiológicos permitiram estabelecer algumas associações clínicas, histológicas e biológicas e foram comparados com os dados internacionais anteriormente relatados.
