Les bioréacteurs à membrane ont été largement utilisés dans le traitement biologique des eaux usées. Les membranes utilisées dans ce type de technologie sont fabriquées à partir de matériaux synthétiques, organiques ou inorganiques. Cependant, les membranes peuvent également être formées par le dépôt de particules solides, de colloïdes, de matériaux polymères, ainsi que de cellules microbiennes et de flocs, sur un support inerte au cours du processus de filtration et, lorsqu’elles sont couplées à un bioréacteur, elles deviennent un système unique appelé bioréacteur à membrane dynamique (DMBR). Ce type de bioréacteur, tout en conservant les solides et les micro-organismes présents dans le système, élimine la matière organique facile et difficile à dégrader, ce qui réduit les coûts de traitement et le rend avantageux par rapport aux bioréacteurs à membrane conventionnels (BRM). Au Brésil, cette technologie est relativement nouvelle et encore peu explorée. Par conséquent, cette étude vise à évaluer les performances des BRMD dans les systèmes de traitement anaérobie des eaux usées. Outre les avantages et les inconvénients de ce type de système par rapport aux BRM conventionnels (micro et ultrafiltration), les phénomènes de BRMD sont décrits.
