The Turnabout Programme is a self-help book for the parents of children with dyslexia, attention deficit disorders and other serious learning difficulties. Throughout the book are the heartwarming stories of children and adults who had been given up as hopeless cases by educationalists and psychologists and who have achieved success through this programme. The book is in four sections:Section one describes The Turnabout Programme, how it developed, and why it has been so successful with people who have dyslexia or attention deficit disorder, including those with hyperactivity.Section two explains the underlying causes of dyslexia and of attention deficit disorder and the principles behind the programme. This non-technical and supportive explanation helps parents to better understand their children’s difficulties.Section three describes The Turnabout Programme of learning games. These make use of music, colour, dice and other familiar objects, are straightforward to administer, and do not require any specialist knowledge or prior training. Section four advises parents how to plan and manage the process of training their child. It also focuses on rebuilding the self-esteem of teenagers after years of disappointment and provides a ten-point plan for encouraging the young person, now with improved capacity to learn, to rejoin mainstream academic life.
