The Shepherd’s Calendar is a pastoral poem written by the famous English poet, Edmund Spenser. Originally published in 1579, this edition of the book was released in 1890 and includes illustrations by Walter Crane. The poem is divided into twelve sections, each representing a month of the year, and follows the lives and loves of various shepherds and shepherdesses. It is written in a traditional style, with a focus on nature, the changing seasons, and the daily life of rural communities. The Shepherd’s Calendar is considered one of Spenser’s most important works and is a classic example of pastoral literature. This edition includes an introduction and notes by the editor, as well as a glossary of archaic terms used in the poem. It is a must-read for fans of Spenser and lovers of pastoral poetry. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
