The She King, also known as The Book of Ancient Poetry, is a translation of a collection of Chinese poems and songs dating back to the Zhou dynasty (1046-256 BCE). The book was translated by James Legge and first published in 1876. The poems cover a range of topics, including love, war, nature, and daily life. The collection is divided into four parts: the Airs of the States, the Lesser Eulogies, the Greater Eulogies, and the Hymns and Odes of the Temple and Altar. Legge’s translation includes annotations and explanations to help readers understand the cultural and historical context of the poems. The She King is considered a significant work in Chinese literature and provides insight into the culture and values of ancient China. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world’s literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
