The Queen of Quelparte is a novel written by Archer Butler Hulbert and first published in 1901. The story is set in the late 19th century and follows the adventures of a young American woman named Mary Ogden who travels to the remote island of Quelparte in the Korean Strait.Upon her arrival, Mary finds herself in the midst of a power struggle between two factions vying for control of the island. The first is led by the corrupt Governor-General, who is backed by a group of wealthy merchants and landowners. The second is a group of rebels who seek to overthrow the Governor-General and establish a more just and democratic society. As Mary becomes involved in the conflict, she finds herself drawn to the charismatic leader of the rebels, a man named Kim Okura. Together, they work to expose the corruption of the Governor-General and his supporters, while also fighting to protect the rights of the island’s indigenous population. The Queen of Quelparte is a thrilling adventure story that explores themes of colonialism, imperialism, and social justice. It offers a fascinating glimpse into the history and culture of Korea during a time of great political upheaval and transformation. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
