As I write this introduction to this book, I look back over the years when I first started to make notes in my bible or notebook, it occurred to me that it began over a half century ago. I attended church and Sunday school on a regular basis and was very interested in learning more about what the future holds for me and my family. The notes I made were mostly in the form of questions rather than things that I had learned. I became convinced that no matter what one believes they could go to the bible and turn to a scripture and prove why they believe what they do. I am also convinced that ninety-five percent of us blindly follow our ancestry without concern as to whether it was according to God’s word or not. I suppose I am a maverick because I question or try to prove everything that doesn’t make sense to me. Hence, most of my notes were questions. In trying to find answers, I read commentaries, listened to teachers and scholars and came up with as many different answers as there were people dispensing them. I finally decided to go to the Lord and ask Him to enlighten me where there was so much disagreement among our fellow Christians. I was amazed at how God will enlighten one who is willing to study his word, pray and meditate on those things that are of concern. I have awakened in the middle of the night many times and my thoughts would go to something about which I had been praying. This seemed to be the time that God used to reveal an answer to me. So many people get upset when they wake up during the night and cannot get back to sleep. For me, this is the time I get closer to my Lord than any other. About two years ago when I was seventy-seven years old, the Lord impressed upon me to write all the things down which He had given me and reminded me that my lifetime is running out. I started gathering my material towards that end, but somehow I didn’t get started. I felt the need to get some other things accomplish

The Gospel of John was long assumed to be the work of an eyewitness, usually identified as John, son of Zebedee. More recently, many have judged it the unhistorical product of a ''Johannine community.'' Reconsideration by Richard Bauckham has suggested that the author was a Jerusalem disciple who housed the ''Last Supper.'' This book explores the possibility that he was present...

  • Through the years with prince charming
    Paul du Quenoy
The past decade has overflowed in a raging stream of contradictions. Old certainties have yielded to relentless insecurity over a time when much of the human experience got immeasurably better even as many things only ever seemed to get worse. As Paul du Quenoy’s globetrotting criticism reveals, the arts were in a ferment that matched profound and yet totally unpredicted social...
