The Nut With A Gut

THE NUT WITH A GUT: VOLUME ONEIt is easier to remember the crimes,When they are put into rhymes. From Donald Trump’s ride down the golden escalator through the events of January 6, The Nut with a Gut: Volume 1 retells one of the most extraordinary periods in modern American politics through satirical rhyme and more than 50 illustrated scenes. It is funny because so much of what actually happened was absurd. It is serious because so much of what happened was not.For more than a decade, Americans - and people throughout the world - have awakened to political news that once would have seemed unimaginable. Lies, scandals, insults, controversies and assaults on democratic norms arrived so frequently that yesterday’s outrage could disappear beneath today’s.Some have dismissed the reaction to all of this as 'derangement syndrome.'Author Craig Sherman calls it something different:SATURATION SYNDROME.Derangement implies irrationality. Saturation means too much, too often, too fast. When extraordinary behavior occurs almost every day, eventually even the extraordinary begins to seem ordinary. Important events blur together. Details disappear. Things we once thought unforgettable are forgotten. The Nut with a Gut was created to help make sure they aren’t.Using rhyme, humor, straightforward language and illustrated satire, Sherman revisits the campaign, presidency, scandals and events that defined the Trump era - from moments that were genuinely hilarious to others whose consequences were anything but.Volume 1 also asks a larger question: How did we get here? The story reaches back through modern American presidential history, examining events and changing political norms that helped shape the America in which Donald Trump could rise to power. One deliberate choice runs throughout the book. Donald Trump has spent a lifetime turning his name into a brand. Sherman chose not to reward that obsession by repeatedly using it throughout the story. In these pages, America’s 45th President is simply:'The Nut with a Gut.'Volume 1 follows the story from the golden escalator through the 2016 campaign, four turbulent years in the White House, the 2020 election and January 6, 2021.This is not a textbook. It is not a policy paper. It is a civic SYLLABUS designed as satire - a warning wrapped in rhyme and vivid imagery - easy to digest, harder to dismiss.Because when history comes at us too quickly to digest, comedy may be one way to make sure we do not forget. This full-color edition of Volume 1 features more than 50 vivid grayscale illustrated scenes.
