The Last Smile of the Enchanted Princess

The Last Smile of the Enchanted Princess follows Princess Anastasia, a woman imprisoned for seven years beneath an iron curse that punishes every strong emotion. The Grip of Sorrow tightens around her throat whenever she feels hatred, grief, or joy, forcing her to become an emotionless symbol of royal stability. To the kingdom, she is a protected princess. In reality, she is a living weapon whose emotions are tied to the fragile balance holding back the catastrophic Oblivion Tide. When Anastasia escapes into the Black Spire, she encounters Malakor, the mysterious Sorcerer of Thorns. Instead of surrendering to her pursuers, she uses her own twilight blood to awaken the ancient thorn-gate, proving that she possesses a power connected to the forgotten history of the realm. Malakor becomes both protector and guide as Anastasia begins uncovering the truth behind the curse and the Great Collapse.Alongside Dorian, Helena, and Archivist Violet Ashford, Anastasia travels through the hidden catacombs beneath Illyria. There they discover evidence that the kingdom’s leaders have concealed the real history of the Collapse. Lawrence, whom Anastasia believed imprisoned her out of cruelty and political ambition, is revealed to have been maintaining a terrible containment system. The truth is even darker: Anastasia’s emotions are dangerous because they can alter the metaphysical balance of the world. The most devastating revelation comes when Anastasia learns the true cost of happiness. The Aegis can restore equilibrium only by excising an emotional anchor from reality. When Anastasia allows herself to feel warmth and love, reality demands a sacrifice. Captain Beckett Hayes-the man whose loyalty and affection once gave her strength-is erased not through death, but from existence itself. His name disappears, memories of him vanish, and even those closest to him are left wondering why an empty place remains where a life should have been.Anastasia finally understands that her entire existence has been shaped by an impossible choice: remain numb and preserve the world, or reclaim her heart and risk destroying it. The climax forces her to confront the nature of love, sacrifice, and memory itself. The ending carries both victory and heartbreak. The curse is broken, the darkness recedes, and Anastasia stands free beneath the sunlight-but Dorian no longer remembers her. The man who once loved her looks into her eyes as though she were a stranger. Anastasia has won her freedom, yet the price is the loss of the person who shared her deepest memories.
