The Fair Penitent and Jane Shore is a book written by Nicholas Rowe and originally published in 1907. The book is a collection of two plays, The Fair Penitent and Jane Shore. The Fair Penitent is a tragedy that tells the story of Calista, a beautiful and virtuous woman who falls in love with Lothario, a notorious womanizer. Despite warnings from her family and friends, Calista becomes involved with Lothario and ultimately pays a tragic price for her actions. Jane Shore is another tragedy that tells the story of a woman who becomes the mistress of King Edward IV. When the king dies, Jane is left to fend for herself and is eventually punished for her role in the affair. Both plays explore themes of love, betrayal, and redemption, and are considered classics of English literature. Nicholas Rowe was a prominent playwright and poet of the 18th century and is best known for his adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world’s literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
