Rose Guilford often had boarders renting out the beds in her basement area. It was a good income and she was all about getting as much money as she could get her hands on. Many times a boarder would leave after staying at her place for a few weeks. This infuriated her. How am I supposed to make any money like this? She became strict with her policy. So whenever a vagrant came to her for a place in her basement, she’d make the man sign a lease agreement that he was going to stay for a period of three months.

The Gospel of John was long assumed to be the work of an eyewitness, usually identified as John, son of Zebedee. More recently, many have judged it the unhistorical product of a ''Johannine community.'' Reconsideration by Richard Bauckham has suggested that the author was a Jerusalem disciple who housed the ''Last Supper.'' This book explores the possibility that he was present...

  • Through the years with prince charming
    Paul du Quenoy
The past decade has overflowed in a raging stream of contradictions. Old certainties have yielded to relentless insecurity over a time when much of the human experience got immeasurably better even as many things only ever seemed to get worse. As Paul du Quenoy’s globetrotting criticism reveals, the arts were in a ferment that matched profound and yet totally unpredicted social...
  • Tommaso Traetta and the Fusion of Italian and French Opera in Parma
    George W. Loomis
In 1759, the court of the Italian Duchy of Parma adopted the inspiration of cultural creators who recommended a reform of Italian opera along French lines. Loomis shows in this groundbreaking volume, the you...

  • Family, Friends and Fun

Some of my poetry is inspired by someone’s action, some come by way of sight, sound or a feeling I may have. Some of my poems don’t come at all. Those are the most challenging ones because they force me to go in search of them. I jot a poem because it’s fun and it’s a contribute to society. Even if no one knows I’ve penned the verse, it gives me pleasure knowing it has bee...
