The Battle of Brick Lane in 1978 was the defining moment for the Bangladeshi community in Britain. This book gives an insight into the lives of the older generation and the problems they faced in the United Kingdom during the 1970s. It is a reminder to our young people of how we stood up against racism and fought for Bangladeshi rights in Britain. In The Battle of Brick Lane 1978, I hope to highlight all the achievements the community has made that our young people may not be aware of. Between 1970 and 1986 the Bangladeshi community faced numerous problems and faced discrimination within the British services providers, such as housing and the healthcare and education system, which also included years of racial attacks.A.K. Azad Konor was a founder member of BYF (Bangladesh Youth Front) and was on the Hackney and Tower Hamlets Defence Committee.  In 1986 he was employed by The Inner London Education Authority (ILEA) as a Youth and Community worker and worked in the Tower Hamlets area as well as completing his degree in Youth and Community Work at Avery Hill College in London.  In 1991 he took redundancy from Tower Hamlets Council and moved to Birmingham.  Since then he has been involved in various cultural activities including many Bangla Melas in the West Midlands area.  3

Reconsideration by Richard Bauckham has suggested that the author was a Jerusalem disciple who housed the ''Last Supper.'' This book explores the possibility that he was present...

  • Through the years with prince charming
    Paul du Quenoy
The past decade has overflowed in a raging stream of contradictions. Old certainties have yielded to relentless insecurity over a time when much of the human experience got immeasurably better even as many things only ever seemed to get worse. As Paul du Quenoy’s globetrotting criticism reveals, the arts were in a ferment that matched profound and yet totally unpredicted social...

In 1759, the court of the Italian Duchy of Parma adopted the inspiration of cultural creators who recommended a reform of Italian opera along French lines. These writers favored combining Italian-style music with the wider range of musical genres and scenic variety of French opera. As the music critic and commentator George W. Loomis shows in this groundbreaking volume, the you...
