L’energia solare assorbita dall’involucro esterno degli edifici aumenta la temperatura superficiale di diversi gradi rispetto alla temperatura dell’aria esterna, soprattutto in estate. A livello di edificio, ciò influisce fortemente sulle condizioni di comfort termico degli occupanti, aumentando al contempo la domanda di energia per il raffreddamento degli ambienti. Su scala urbana, questo effetto porta a valori di temperatura dell’aria più elevati di quelli raggiunti nelle aree rurali, contribuendo così al fenomeno dell’isola di calore urbana (UHI). I materiali freddi, noti per la loro capacità di limitare l’entità della radiazione solare assorbita dalle superfici costruite, rappresentano una soluzione interessante per la mitigazione di entrambi i problemi sopra citati. Questo libro si occupa dello studio di materiali freddi da applicare sul tetto (Cool Roofs) di edifici per uffici esistenti situati in tutta Europa. In questo modo, le prestazioni di questa tecnologia vengono valutate a fondo in funzione dei diversi climi, delle caratteristiche dell’edificio e delle proprietà ottiche dei materiali, mostrando così le condizioni migliori per la loro applicazione.
