Si valuta l’impatto delle tecnologie di adattamento ai cambiamenti climatici o delle tecnologie intelligenti per il clima sulla sicurezza alimentare. L’area di studio, rappresentata da circoscrizioni selezionate nel distretto di Chivi, è caratterizzata da precipitazioni scarse ed erratiche, pari a 400-650 mm/anno. La metodologia di studio comprendeva tecniche di ricerca quantitative e qualitative. I metodi quantitativi sono stati fondamentali per generare informazioni sui cambiamenti nelle rese di prodotti di base come sorgo, grano e mais, nonché di legumi e patate dolci. I cambiamenti nelle rese sono stati misurati utilizzando un questionario a risposta chiusa (N= 50). I metodi qualitativi sono stati molto utili per raccogliere dati, in particolare sulla percezione del cambiamento climatico. Il documento conclude che mentre le tecnologie di adattamento al clima, come la lavorazione del terreno a zero e gli schemi di irrigazione a energia solare, sono pubblicizzate come la panacea all’insicurezza alimentare nel distretto di Chivi, ci sono ancora delle sfide che ostacolano la realizzazione dei reali benefici derivanti dalla loro adozione nelle pratiche agricole rurali principali. Alcuni dei problemi vanno oltre la sfera biofisica e sono di natura socio-economica.
