Les discussions de groupe sont un outil de recherche exploratoire, c’est-à-dire un groupe structuré utilisé pour explorer les pensées et les sentiments des gens et obtenir des informations détaillées sur un sujet ou une question particulière. Les discussions de groupe durent entre une heure et demie et deux heures ; au-delà, la discussion perd de son élan. Si la discussion est bien gérée, elle permet aux sentiments profonds sur un sujet d’émerger naturellement. Un groupe de discussion est une session approfondie au cours de laquelle un petit nombre de personnes, généralement huit à douze de la population cible, sous la direction d’un facilitateur (modérateur), discutent de sujets importants pour une étude ou un projet particulier. Par nature, les discussions de groupe sont une méthode dans laquelle les sujets abordés sont flexibles et la discussion commence par des questions plus générales et s’oriente lentement vers des questions plus spécifiques. Cet ouvrage s’attachera à mettre en évidence les avantages et les inconvénients des discussions de groupe en tant qu’instrument de collecte de données dans le cadre du suivi et de l’évaluation.
