Tamate: The Life and Adventures of a Christian Hero is a book written by Richard Lovett and published in 1904. The book tells the story of James Chalmers, a Scottish missionary who traveled to Papua New Guinea in the late 1800s to spread Christianity. Chalmers, who was known by the name Tamate by the locals, faced many challenges during his time in Papua New Guinea, including hostile tribes, dangerous wildlife, and difficult terrain. Despite these challenges, he was determined to share his faith with the people of Papua New Guinea and worked tirelessly to establish mission stations throughout the region. The book chronicles Chalmers’ many adventures, including his explorations of previously uncharted areas, his encounters with cannibals, and his efforts to establish peaceful relationships between warring tribes. Lovett’s book provides a vivid and detailed account of Chalmers’ life and the impact he had on the people of Papua New Guinea. It is a fascinating read for anyone interested in the history of Christian missions or the exploration of new frontiers. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world’s literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
