Podejście oparte na modelach opartych na danych terenowych pozwala opisać zjawisko, na które składają się różne czynniki wejściowe występujące w działalności przemysłowej w miejscu pracy. Zmienne wyjściowe tego zjawiska pozwalają ustalić ilościowe zależności między reakcjami a czynnikami wejściowymi. Zarówno czynniki wejściowe, jak i odpowiadające im reakcje są mierzone. Takie ilościowe zależności nazywane są modelami matematycznymi. Opracowano dwa rodzaje modeli, a mianowicie model wykorzystujący koncepcję krzywej regresji wielokrotnej metodą najmniejszych kwadratów, określany jako model matematyczny, oraz model oparty na symulacji sztucznej sieci neuronowej.
