Darüber hinaus wollen wir uns in dieser Studie auf die vergleichenden und evolutionären Beziehungen zwischen Schlüsselkatalysatoren wie DPOR und LPOR und den Katalysatoren konzentrieren, die an einem anderen wichtigen Prozess beteiligt sind, der biologischen Stickstofffixierung, die in der Lage ist, inertes atmosphärisches Stickstoffgas in organisches Ammoniak umzuwandeln, das als ultimative Stickstoffquelle für das Leben auf der Erde dient. Der Ursprung und die Konvergenzentwicklung von DPOR und Nitrogenase führen zu unserer derzeitigen Strukturaufklärung von LPOR und zur Vorstellung von der Existenz möglicher anderer Versionen der noch nicht entdeckten Nitrogenase.
