Der hohe Verbrauch natürlicher Ressourcen durch die Bauindustrie hat zu einer zunehmenden Besorgnis über die Erhaltung der Umwelt geführt und zahlreiche Studien über die Verwendung von Abfällen veranlasst, die bestimmte Materialien, darunter auch Zuschlagstoffe, ganz oder teilweise ersetzen können, wodurch die Umweltauswirkungen der von der Bauindustrie erzeugten Abfälle verringert werden. Zu den am häufigsten verwendeten Materialien gehört Steinstaub, ein Rückstand aus der Gesteinszerkleinerung, dessen Verwendung angesichts der hohen Kosten natürlicher Sande, ihrer Knappheit in der Nähe großer Zentren sowie der Umweltschäden, die ihr Abbau verursacht, sehr vielversprechend ist. Vor diesem Hintergrund und im Hinblick auf die Beseitigung von Abfällen aus der Natur und deren Verwendung für alternative Produkte sollte im Rahmen dieses Forschungsprojekts die Machbarkeit der Verwendung von Gesteinsmehl als vollständiger oder teilweiser Ersatz für Betonzuschlagstoffe untersucht werden.
