La colza, Brassica napus L., appartiene alla famiglia delle Brassicaceae ed è coltivata in molte parti del mondo, distinguendosi come un’eccellente alternativa economica grazie al suo utilizzo nella produzione di oli commestibili e biodiesel (Miri 2007; Marjanovic-Jeromela 2008).In Egitto, la colza ha un futuro brillante per contribuire a ridurre il divario tra produzione e consumo di olio commestibile, in particolare potrebbe essere coltivata con successo durante la stagione invernale in terreni di nuova bonifica al di fuori di quelli della vecchia valle del Nilo per aggirare la concorrenza con altre colture che occupano la vecchia area coltivata. (Sharaan et al., 2002).
