L’uso di acqua salina in agricoltura è diventato una realtà in molte aree del mondo, poiché la tolleranza alla salinità varia tra gli stadi di sviluppo delle colture e varia anche in base al genotipo utilizzato. Altrettanto importanti sono gli studi sul recupero delle piante dopo l’esposizione alla salinità, che potrebbe essere una strategia per l’utilizzo dell’acqua salina nell’irrigazione. In quest’ottica, lo scopo di questa ricerca è stato quello di determinare la tolleranza di genotipi di cotone a colorazione naturale, a seconda degli stadi di sviluppo della pianta, in condizioni di bassa e alta salinità e di valutare il recupero dopo l’esposizione allo stress salino. In un esperimento condotto nella serra dell’Unità Accademica di Ingegneria Agraria, Campus di Campina Grande, sono stati valutati tre genotipi di cotone (G1 - BRS Rubi 1; G2 - BRS Topázio; G3 - BRS Safira), sottoposti a sette strategie di gestione della salinità, variando la qualità dell’acqua applicata in diverse fasi del ciclo della pianta. Combinando i fattori in un disegno a blocchi randomizzato si sono ottenuti 21 trattamenti (3 x 7) con tre piante per parcella e tre repliche.
