Książka ta stanowi opracowanie, które przede wszystkim zawiera ogólne rozważania na ten temat. W tym miejscu odwołaliśmy się do danych wyjaśniających ogólną charakterystykę Riftu Albertowskiego: można tu między innymi wspomnieć o podziale Riftu Albertowskiego na dwie gałęzie - wschodnią i zachodnią. Należy zaznaczyć, że interesowała nas gałąź zachodnia, po prostu dlatego, że wpisuje się ona w zakres naszego tematu badawczego. Odgałęzienie to obejmuje jeziora, lasy, parki... jednak ograniczyliśmy się do Grabenu Albertowskiego, który również obejmuje jeziora, takie jak Albert, Edouard i Kivu, a także Park Narodowy Virunga.Następnie omówiliśmy geologię Grabenu Albertina, która ukazuje obszar występowania ropy naftowej, podzielony na bloki, takie jak bloki I, II, III, IV i V, jednak naszą największą uwagę przyciągnęły bloki III, IV i V, które wchodzą w skład obszaru naszych badań, jakim jest prowincja Północnego Kivu.Ponadto omówiliśmy metodologię (metody badań naukowych oraz techniki geofizyczne i geochemiczne) oraz modele EES, EIE, PAR, FFOM, PESTEL i RES.
