L’India vanta un’ampia popolazione bovina di 199,1 milioni di capi, tra cui 39,73 milioni di bovini incrociati. Il numero di bovini da latte esotici e incrociati è passato da 14,4 milioni a 19,42 milioni, con una crescita del 34,78% (come riportato nel 19° Censimento del bestiame del 2012). Questo aumento evidenzia il successo dei programmi di incrocio, che hanno svolto un ruolo cruciale nell’affermare l’India come primo produttore di latte al mondo. Il successo è attribuito all’incrocio di bovini indiani descritti e non descritti con razze da latte esotiche, in particolare Holstein Frisona, Jersey e Brown Swiss. In questo contesto, il nostro studio si concentra sulla stima della ripetibilità di alcuni tratti riproduttivi in vari gradi di incroci Jersey x Red Sindhi mantenuti presso l’azienda lattiero-casearia SHUATS di Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Abbiamo analizzato 66 registri del Dipartimento di Zootecnia e Allevamento della Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, che vanno dal 1935 al 1975. Gli animali sono stati gestiti da personale specializzato in condizioni di alimentazione e gestione coerenti. I tratti riproduttivi esaminati in questo studio comprendono il periodo di servizio (SP), il periodo di asciutta (DP).
