Employers in the 21st century are looking for candidates who master both 'technical' and 'behavioral' skills, as the most valued and effective employees in the workplace are often those who possess both technical and cross-disciplinary skills. Changes in generational structure, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, have increased demand for cross-disciplinary skills, such as communication, teamwork, motivation, problem-solving and confidence. These are becoming highly valued in the workplace. Employability skills can be defined as the abilities needed not only to land a job, but also to evolve within a company, in order to reach one’s full potential and successfully contribute to that company’s strategic objectives. The skills that are crucial to employability are not only technical, cognitive, job- and discipline-specific, but also psychosocial and behavioral.
