This book is thus the fruit of that ongoing dialogue between theory and practice, between the concepts inherited from the Vygotskian tradition and the lived realities of Jamaican classrooms. It is an attempt to build bridges between two worlds that should talk to each other more: that of academic research on language learning and that of the everyday experience of those who teach and learn in culturally and linguistically diverse contexts.
