Sleeping Beauty: A Cantata in a Prologue and Four Scenes is a musical composition by Frederic H. Cowen, first performed in 1885. The cantata is based on the classic fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty, and is written for a full orchestra and chorus. The prologue sets the scene with the fairies and the curse of the wicked fairy, followed by the birth of Princess Aurora in the first scene. The second scene portrays the christening of the princess, where the wicked fairy arrives and casts her curse. The third scene shows the princess growing up and the arrival of the prince, while the fourth and final scene is the awakening of Aurora from her sleep and the triumphant conclusion.
