Rangamati é uma cidade distrital de Bangladesh, localizada na região montanhosa de Chittagong, no sudeste do país. É o maior distrito de Bangladesh em termos de área, com cerca de 6116 quilómetros quadrados. Rangamati fica a 77 quilómetros da sede do distrito de Chittagong. Cinquenta e dois por cento da população é indígena e dividida em mais de doze tribos diferentes. As pessoas desta região têm fontes limitadas de água potável e dependem de fontes naturais, como rios, canais, lagos e nascentes, para uso doméstico. O estudo revelou que noventa por cento das pessoas da área municipal de Rangamati utilizam água de poços tubulares para consumo. Cinquenta e cinco por cento das pessoas instalaram poços tubulares às suas próprias custas e o restante utiliza poços tubulares de diferentes fontes, como ONGs, CHTDB, etc. A qualidade da água fornecida pelo município não é potável e é utilizada apenas para cozinhar, tomar banho, lavar, etc. A autoridade municipal não consegue fornecer água suficiente e não há estação de tratamento de água em Rangamati. A recolha de água da chuva não é satisfatória e as pessoas não têm conhecimento sobre a captação de água da chuva.
