Le nanoparticelle di metalli nobili hanno unrapporto superficie/volume molto elevatoe un’alta stabilità degli atomi sulla loro superficie e sono note per le loro elevate prestazioni catalitiche in una varietà di trasformazioni chimiche preparatorie. Queste proprietà emergenti hanno un potenziale di grande impatto nei settori dell’ottica, dell’elettronica, della meccanica, della biomedicina, della catalisi e in altri campi. Le metodologie sintetiche tradizionali per la produzione di nanoparticelle di metalli nobili prevedono vari metodi fisici o chimici con l’ausilio di agenti riducenti e stabilizzanti tossici e pericolosi . Il metodo di sintesi verde assistito da microonde consente di risparmiare energia e di rispettare l’ambiente , poiché le reazioni avvengono in condizioni di sistema chiuso e isolato . Nel presente studio le naoanoparticelle di metalli nobili , ovvero Pd, Ag, Pt e Au, sono state sintetizzate utilizzando gomme come gomma di guar, gomma di neem, gomma di acacia e gomma ghatti in un forno a microonde.
