O oxadiazol é um composto aromático heterocíclico de cinco membros com dois átomos de carbono, dois de nitrogénio e um de oxigénio e duas ligações com a fórmula geral O oxadiazol é considerado um derivado do furano pela substituição de dois grupos metano (CH=) por dois grupos nitrogénio do tipo piridina (-N=), denominados furadiazóis. Existem quatro isómeros possíveis de oxadiazol, dependendo da posição do átomo de nitrogénio no anel, nomeadamente 1,2,3-oxadiazol, 1,2,4 e 1,3,4-oxadiazol. Um grande número de derivados de 1,3,4-oxadiazol apresentam várias atividades biológicas, tais como anti-inflamatórias, antimicrobianas, anticancerígenas, anticonvulsivas e anti-hipertensivas, etc.
