Selon l’Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS), les problèmes de santé mentale maternelle contribuent pour une part importante à la charge mondiale de morbidité. En 2024, la dépression post-partum (DPP) touchait plus de 15 % des femmes dans le monde, affectant de manière disproportionnée celles vivant dans les pays à revenu faible ou intermédiaire. Selon l’OMS, une DPP non traitée contribue à des conséquences négatives à long terme tant pour les mères que pour les nourrissons, notamment des troubles du développement cognitif et émotionnel des enfants et une augmentation des taux de morbidité et de mortalité maternelles (Ahmad, Alkhatib et Luo, 2021). La dépression post-partum est reconnue comme l’une des principales causes des problèmes de santé mentale maternelle, figurant parmi les principaux facteurs contribuant à la charge de morbidité chez les femmes en âge de procréer. Ces problèmes sont particulièrement fréquents dans les pays en développement en raison de l’accès limité aux soins de santé, de la stigmatisation et du manque de sensibilisation à la santé mentale (Al-Sabah et al., 2024). Les efforts visant à lutter contre la dépression post-partum sont essentiels pour améliorer la santé maternelle et infantile à l’échelle mondiale (Ayalew, Atlaw, & Ayenew, 2023).
