Saturday Night: A Novel For The Stage In Five Tableaux is a play written by Jacinto Benavente and originally published in 1918. The play is set in Madrid and follows the lives of a group of characters over the course of one Saturday night. The five tableaux, or scenes, each depict a different moment in the night and explore themes of love, infidelity, jealousy, and social class. The play opens with a group of young people at a dance, where they are introduced to a wealthy and influential man named Don Juan. Throughout the night, Don Juan flirts with several women, including the wife of a jealous man named Rodrigo. As the night progresses, tensions rise and secrets are revealed, leading to a dramatic conclusion. The play is known for its witty dialogue and sharp social commentary, particularly regarding the hypocrisy of the upper class. Benavente was a prominent Spanish playwright and Nobel laureate, and Saturday Night is considered one of his most successful works. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
