A região do Extremo Norte dos Camarões tem uma ecologia frágil e é vítima de problemas de desflorestação. As espécies lenhosas são destruídas em benefício das atividades humanas. O trabalho levanta o problema do desaparecimento de espécies lenhosas nas reservas florestais. Este estudo é realizado no departamento de Mayo-Kani, um dos seis departamentos da região do Extremo Norte, bem representado em termos de potencial de reserva florestal. O autor dá algumas respostas e explicações para esta situação preocupante e vulnerável, ao mesmo tempo que abre perspectivas para ações de salvaguarda da biodiversidade com vista ao desenvolvimento sustentável.
