Esta investigação analisa a rentabilidade das explorações hortícolas para identificar os factores que a influenciam. Os dados foram recolhidos em 113 explorações agrícolas e analisados com recurso a ferramentas especializadas.Os resultados mostram que 80% dos agricultores são homens, com uma idade média de 45 anos, e que 71% dos produtos hortícolas se destinam ao mercado. Em termos de classificação, 10% das explorações são pobres, 16% pobres, 46% médias e 28% ricas. O rendimento total é de 674.767,25 gourdes ($5.111), com uma rentabilidade de 50%, enquanto que a cultura do alho-porro é de 61%.Os horticultores são aconselhados a dar prioridade ao alho francês, a melhorar as infra-estruturas, a reforçar as suas competências e a desenvolver actividades agro-alimentares para garantir a sustentabilidade da produção.
