Using field data, the book applies trend analysis, correlation analysis, and failure distribution modeling to evaluate the reliability of both individual subsystems and the overall dragline. Maintenance schedules are derived at varying reliability levels and optimized through simulation to minimize total maintenance costs. In search of an effective strategy, the study introduces an Opportunistic Maintenance (OM) approach that consolidates reliability-based maintenance (RBM) tasks of multiple, proximate subsystems for simultaneous inspection and repair. The results indicate that OM enhances overall reliability and reduces costs, offering a robust reliability mechanism. The approach is adaptable to draglines in various mines, making it a valuable framework for improving maintenance practices in heavy earthmoving operations.
