L’origine des déchets solides est l’un des facteurs clés pour comprendre dans quelle mesure ils nuisent à l’environnement. Pour discuter et analyser le problème des déchets solides dans les grands centres urbains, il est nécessaire de se pencher sur l’histoire de la production de déchets. La perception du problème est marquée par l’avènement de la révolution industrielle dans le monde. Au Brésil, à partir des années 50, avec l’utilisation des emballages, la production de déchets a considérablement augmenté. Dans la biosphère, il existe de grands écosystèmes dont les caractéristiques dépendent de leur position géographique, de leur histoire géologique et de l’évolution biologique de la planète. Pour organiser la compréhension du processus de récupération des sources, il est nécessaire d’examiner au préalable l’importance de l’eau dans le contexte de la vie dans les grands réservoirs naturels (océans, lacs et rivières), car on y trouve divers organismes vivants, des grands poissons et mammifères aux minuscules êtres unicellulaires, les protozoaires. Parmi les plantes, les grandes algues et les algues microscopiques jouent un rôle essentiel pour la vie sur terre (MAGOSSI & BONACELLA, 2013).
