Une solution possible est étudiée pour résoudre les problèmes mondiaux de déchets solides, de pollution de l’air et de crise énergétique. La paille de riz est une biomasse abondante qui est souvent brûlée en plein champ. Les hydrates de carbone et les sucres de la paille de riz peuvent être hydrolysés à l’acide pour produire des furanes, qui sont les éléments constitutifs d’un carburant connu sous le nom d’éthoxyméthyl furfural, dont la densité énergétique est similaire à celle de l’essence. Un modèle a été créé pour représenter la concentration des différents composants présents dans le réacteur en fonction du temps de séjour.
