Die Reaktion der Gemüsekuhbohne (Vigna unguiculata [L.] walp) auf den Abstand innerhalb der Reihe und die Entlaubung wurde am Plateau State College of Agriculture in Garkawa (Breitengrad 10011 ’N und Längengrad 8021 E) in der südlichen Guinea-Savannen-Ökozone während der Regenzeit 2008 und 2009 untersucht. Die Behandlungen bestanden aus vier Reihenabständen (20, 30, 40 und 50 Zentimeter) und vier Entlaubungsraten (0, 25, 50 und 75 Prozent). Diese Behandlungen wurden faktoriell kombiniert und in einem randomisierten vollständigen Blockdesign mit drei Wiederholungen angelegt. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass die Wachstumsparameter der Gemüse-Augenbohne (Pflanzenhöhe, Sprossfrischgewicht pro Pflanze und Sprosstrockengewicht pro Pflanze) bei geringem Abstand innerhalb der Reihen signifikant zunahmen. Ebenso stieg der Ertrag grüner Hülsen signifikant mit abnehmenden Abständen innerhalb der Reihen. Der Reihenabstand von 20 cm ergab einen Ertrag von 5,7 g essbaren Blättern pro Parzelle, was deutlich über den 5,1 g bei 30 cm im Jahr 2008 lag.
