I diversi tipi e varietà di suolo sono determinati da cambiamenti a breve termine dei fattori di formazione, principalmente dal rilievo, dall’altitudine e dalle condizioni climatiche. La valutazione delle risorse del suolo e delle loro capacità è una sfida ben nota per il Paese. Lo studio delle proprietà fisiche dei suoli è una delle direzioni più importanti per soddisfare le esigenze di sicurezza alimentare, mitigazione dei cambiamenti climatici e sviluppo sostenibile. Lavorare sui dati del suolo e mappare le sue proprietà è un passo fondamentale per arricchire le conoscenze. Con il sostegno finanziario della Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, l’istituto sta lavorando alla National Soil Atlass of Georgia, che comprende mappe delle proprietà fisiche del suolo. L’atlante sarà pubblicato nel 2018. Questo libro è un’interpretazione estesa dell’articolo pubblicato sulla rivista 'Annals of Agrarian Science' nel 2017 con lo stesso titolo.
